This is a joyous day. The story of Britney Spears is that of Shakespeare. From simple beginnings in Louisiana to beating out the likes of a young, chipper Jessica Simpson for a spot on the celebrity incubator that was The Mickey Mouse Club to becoming a teenage pop sensation akin to The Beatles followed by a dramatic and very public emotional downfall—Spears with the shaved head hitting the windshield with an umbrella will forever be imprinted on our minds—only to then make one of the best comebacks in music and, let’s just say it, world history. And now Spears is back on top as the reigning queen of pop as well as a darling of the media once again as she has never lost her signature goofiness and small town girl appeal. You can’t write this kind of stuff! But luckily Lifetime is going to make a movie about the singer’s amazing life.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the two-hour movie, to premiere in 2017, will follow Spears’ career from the beginning to her breakup with Justin Timberlake and many of her personal struggles including her marriages, losing custody of her young sons and then her journey back to the top of the charts and just being an all-around awesome person. Natasha Bassett (Hail, Caesar!) will star as Spears in Britney. We just hope they will recreate some of her amazing performances like the “Slave 4 U” snake dance and VMA strip tease.
The film will be produced by Asylum Entertainment (The Kennedys, Ring of Fire) with Anne-Marie Hess writing the screenplay and Leslie Libman (Manson’s Lost Girls) directing. Exec producers include Steve Michaels, Jonathan Koch and Joan Harrison.
Spears is having a big week with her Carpool Karaoke with James Corden and her ninth album release, Glory. She will also be performing at this Sunday’s The VMAs. It’s Britney bitch!
