It will be interesting to see how this second episode can maintain the same excitement level as last week–that was a hard episode to top! Apparently, this is not something the producers are too worried about. They bring out 100 “real women” and tell our hapless contestants that this is the client they need to design for in this challenge. The winning design will be featured for sale on JustFab. I am a little disappointed that the model will not be a “real woman.” That always makes the challenge more difficult, especially if you only have one day.
The designers finally get to go to Mood after their sketching. I am not too inspired by anything that the designers are making thus far. So far is the drama between Cornelius and Dexter is the most interesting part of the show, and truthfully, that really isn’t too interesting. Dexter thinks Cornelius is talking about him (haven’t seen any proof) and then states that he “doesn’t have time for that.” Umm… he sure seems to be spending a lot of time talking about it! Dexter is somewhat entertaining though, hearing him complain about the drama is actually more interesting then the actual drama! Plus, his impersonations of the other designers are fun.
Why are so many designers are working in muslin (the trial fabric) and not the real fabric? This is a one-day challenge. I have a feeling a lot of designers are going to run into a serious time management problem. Ahem, Kimber… I am looking at you!
At the model fitting I can’t help but be a little worried for Linda. She seems to be having an issue with a basic design, and it’s a really easy fabric, a stretchy sweater material, to boot. In fact I am worried for a couple designers. Frustratingly I still have not seen anything that looks incredibly interesting, and some look downright boring. Ahem, Sarah…I am looking at you!
The morning of the runway show brings some needed optimism. I am seeing some cute looks come out of the woodwork, things that have not been showcased previously in the episode. Now I’m starting to look forward to the runway show. Ahem, Erin… I am looking at you!
Laurence – I love this look and think that it has a good chance of being in the top three. It is clean, stylish and even with the oversized cut, it is flattering. I would totally buy it from JustFab! I also love how she styled it with the pop of color in the handbag. I would have preferred that she did not include the pop of orange on the back. A “real woman” would be able to wear it with a lot more things and style it with more colors, without it.
Rik – I also love this look. It showcases very clean and fresh. I love that it keeps on-trend with a crop top, but there is just a slight stomach showcased so more woman can feel comfortable wearing it. I also think the skirt could be paired with a lot of different things, making it work well in a wardrobe. I also love how he played with the pattern and made the skirt reminiscent of a shirt. Well done. Another look I would love to buy!
Alex – Wow, I was worried about this runway and I have been blown away by the first three looks. This look is a little safe by being all black, but I appreciate how important the color is for a “real woman’s” wardrobe. I think the pants fit the model to perfection, and the top is very interesting. It looks very high fashion, while still being functional.
Jenni – I do like this look but, I also see some issues. First, the color seems like there is a little too much peach, not a great color for a lot of women. Second, I also like the pants, but I’m not sure how great they would look on a less tall/thin person, and how it would look paired with flats. Most women are not wearing sky-high stilettos on the regular.
Kimber – I am impressed that she was able to pull the look together in time, but I am still seeing a lot of issues. The pants seem to be pulling at the pockets, and a high-waisted, wide-legged pant is not a flattering look on a lot of women. The top seems well-made enough, but the print does not seem very fashionable or modern.
Linda – The full look together is flattering enough–yhe clean, monochromatic color pallet and the trendy sheer jacket. However, the construction of the dress has some major issues. It looks very lumpy on the side seams. This should be an easy fabric/design to work with. I did not see enough of the jacket to really comment on the construction.
Nathalia – The jacket looks cool and modern on the model, but I again have doubts if this would be as flattering on a woman less tall or thin. I am in agreeance that the undergarments need to be simple, but the top looks too much like a very dated workout shirt.
Sarah – Talk about being dated, this look screams the early 2000’s. I really do not see anything special about this look. The skirt is a basic black pencil skirt and the top is a basic black sleeveless blouse. I do like the butterfly print, but it looks cheap, like an imitation silk material. (Although hard to tell by the quick screen time.)
Mah-Jing – Wow, I am impressed with this look, and truth-be-told, I didn’t think I would be by what I saw in the workroom. I love the shape, flattering pleating and the thin belt strap. I also love the length and detail. In addition, I think that he styled it perfectly, with the black dress and pop of orange in the shoes and clutch. I would definitely buy this look.
Cornelius – I am undecided about this look, which doesn’t happen very often. I think the dress is interesting, but I am not sure I would buy it. I also like the pop of color on the bottom, but I am not sure I love those two prints together. I would see this look being safe.
Tasha – Wow, I am surprised and impressed by this look based on what Tasha did last week. It seems like an interesting and cool look that a lot of women would like to wear. I also LOVE the styling with the beanie and the belt. This is a look that I (and I think a lot of woman) would love to wear.
Brik – This look would be lucky to be safe, and will potentially earn a spot in the bottom. The jacket looks like something that can be found at any department store, and the pants are not cut or made exceptionally well. Not much else to say…
Dexter – I do like this jacket and again think that he styled it perfectly. My concern is similar to how I feel about a few other looks on the runway. That being said, I again have doubts if this would be as flattering on a woman less tall or thin. I also would have liked to see this jacket in something other then denim. I think it might have a bit more polished feel and could be worn with more things.
Roberti – I agree with Roberti about the movement of the look being beautiful. My concern is that none of the three pieces seem especially unique. I also think the lace he chose for the jacket looks a little cheap.
Erin – I do like this look but, seeing it on the runway I love it less then I did in the workroom. I think it would be a lot more flattering if it was cut a bit shorter. I also don’t think this is a look that speaks to “real woman,” and would be something that a lot of women would feel comfortable wearing everyday.
In the end the winner is Laurence and I am excited! I will definitely have to check out the site and look into purchasing that look for myself! I am disappointed that Linda was sent home over Brik. I was hoping to see if she could rebound next week while Brik showed a similar look to last week and was somehow spared.
