Alluring audiences with emotionally tinged performances has been the signature of Angela Bassett. Her talent and abilities as an actress and executive producer in both television and film have garnered well-deserved respect and acclaim from peers and fans, proving her to be one of the industry’s premier leading ladies.

This Oscar nominee and Golden Globe winner recently received an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Miniseries for her work as “Marie Laveau” in the hit FX series “American Horror Story: Coven.” She returns this season to film the carnival themed “American Horror Story: Freak Show.”

This October, Bassett will be seen in Gregg Araki’s “Whitebird in a Blizzard” opposite Shailene Woodley. She recently completed work in London on the upcoming film “Survivor” opposite Pierce Brosnan, Emma Thompson and Milla Jovovich for director James McTeigue and will reprise her “Olympus Has Fallen” role in the upcoming sequel “London Has Fallen.”

Bassett has received numerous accolades and awards for her riveting performances on stage, screen and television including more than 11 NAACP Image Awards and several Screen Actors Guild nominations for performances in “What’s Love Got To Do With It,” Lifetime’s “Betty and Coretta,” “Black Nativity,“ “How Stella Got Her Groove Back,” “The Score,” “Malcolm X” and “The Rosa Parks Story.”

Beginning her career on stage and continuing there to this day, Bassett has performed both on and off Broadway in productions such as “Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom”; “Colored People’s Time”; “Henry IV, Part I”; “Joe Turner’s Come and Gone”; “Antigone”; “Pericles”; “Black Girl”; “Macbeth,” opposite Alec Baldwin; “His Girl Friday;” “The Front Page,” opposite Courtney B. Vance; “Fences,” opposite Laurence Fishburne and “Mountaintop,” opposite Samuel L. Jackson.

Nominations and awards aside, one of the most gratifying moments of Bassett’s career was the opportunity to merge faith and talent when she gave voice to various characters in the all-time best selling audiobook, “The Bible Experience.”

Bassett and her husband, actor Courtney B. Vance co-wrote the book, “Friends: A Love Story.” The inspirational book is the real-life love story of Bassett and Vance, who were friends for many years before marrying. They have also formed Bassett Vance Productions and their first venture, “Book of the Year,” will continue Bassett’s impressive foray into directing.

The couple resides outside of Los Angeles with their twins, Bronwyn Golden and Slater Josiah.
