Joaquina Kalukango recently received a Tony nomination for lead actress in a play for her incredibly layered and devastating performance in the critically acclaimed Broadway production of Slave Play. She also received an Outer Critics Circle Award for best actress and Broadway.com listed her as one of the top 5 performers (male or female) of the year, declaring that her “blistering performance is one that will shake you to your core.” Joaquina can currently be seen in a recurring on the HBO series “Lovecraft Country” and will next be seen playing Betty Shabaz opposite Kingsley Ben-Adir in Regina King’s directorial debut “One Night In Miami” which recently premiered at both The Toronto and Venice film festivals and will be released in theaters and Amazon Prime this winter. Other TV credits include Ava Duvernay’s Netflix series “When They See Us.” Recent Broadway credits include “The Color Purple,” “Holler If You Hear Me,” and “Godspell.”
