Not even an Olympic gold win can get a woman paid fairly. This week in wage gap news: five key members of the U.S. women’s soccer team have charged the U.S. Soccer organization with wage discrimination. The federal complaint, filed to the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, requests an investigation of U.S. Soccer and its wages across genders. Co-captains Becky Sauerbrunn and Carli Lloyd, midfielder Megan Rapinoe, goalkeeper Hope Solo and forward Alex Morgan make up the dream team that decided to take action. “We have been quite patient over the years with the belief that the Federation would do the right thing and compensate us fairly,” co-captain Carli Lloyd said in a statement. Haven’t we all been there? Waiting patiently for the powers that be to do the right thing while the right thing never actually gets done? To Becky, Carly, Megan, Hope and Alex: kick ass.
