Amy Winehouse’s legacy has just taken a wonderfully inspirational turn. According to The Guardian, The Amy Winehouse Foundation—a charity founded in her name—will soon open a women’s-only addiction rehab and recovery center in east London. They’re calling it “Amy’s Place,” which is perfect.
In case you didn’t know, there are a lot of benefits a women’s-only safe space for recovery (freedom from distraction, a clean break from the past, deeper community, etc.) and, alas, only about six such rehabs in all of the UK. On top of space for 16 women and traditional recovery treatments, Amy’s Place will yoga, vocational training, and life-coaching workshops.
As Amy, whose own life might have been saved by such a program, once said, “I think we have to be aware that people are allowed to make mistakes.” Yep. Of course, the next step is helping them get off the ground. Looks like Amy’s Place will be perfect for doing just that.
